It is with heavy hearts that we write this message to you. With the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic grappling our world, we have come to the incredibly hard decision that the 2020 Eastern Iowa Horse & Pony Camp will be cancelled. The safety of our campers, families, volunteers, staff, and our furry friends have to come first. The board is devastated to make this tough decision, but felt it was in everyone’s best interest to cancel camp. We waited as long as we could before making this decision, in the hopes that the restrictions would have been eased enough for camp to occur.
On a brighter note, we do have some exciting news to announce! Camp will be moving to the Jones County Fairgrounds in Monticello, Iowa for 2021. The new grounds have covered arenas that will be the perfect place to ride when it's a wet week at camp! Check out the Jones County Equestrian Center.
The Eastern Iowa Horse & Pony Camp is a week long overnight residential camp that is open to boys and girls in third - 12th grade that have an interest in horses. Youth must have completed third grade by the start of camp to attend. Campers welcome from all over Eastern Iowa including but not limited to Dubuque, the Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo, and more!
Campers must provide their own horse or pony for camp.
Each day campers will participate in small group riding lessons with experienced equine instructors, interactive learning sessions, and various entertaining evening activties.
Campers will also have the chance to sign up for a special elective of their choice each afternoon.
The Eastern Iowa Horse & Pony Camp also relies heavily on volunteers to keep the cost of camp low. We suggest a parent or guardian of each camper take some time to help in areas such as: overnight chaperons, kitchen help, daily chaperons, barn help, etc.
Opportunities are also available for older and experienced youth to be mentors. Mentors provide assistance to our instructors during riding lessons to ensure campers are excelling and advancing their skills during the lessons. They also assist in the barns, E-cademy's, electives, snack bar, kitchen, and evening activities.
